At this year’s Watches and Wonders we saw the release of several exciting models from Rolex none more subtle than that of their new stainless steel GMT-Master II featuring the new Gris Noir bezel. This may not be quite as big of an industry shock as the 2022 release of the left-handed 126720VTNR “Sprite” but it’s a smart addition to the GMT family and expands the reach of the GRNR bezel.
Despite the longstanding history and tradition of the beloved black-bezel GMT, the last of its kind, the 116710LN, was discontinued in 2019. And while the iconic red and blue “Pepsi” lives on with the younger black and blue “Batman” by its side, the option for a neutral GMT had remained vacant within the collection. This release fills that void as what feels like the natural progression of the 116710LN and even improves on its predecessor by giving us a slight variance in shade for day/night indication.
Like the saying goes, black (and grey) goes with everything. No matter the fit this piece can work with any attire and be dressed up or dressed down on oyster or jubilee bracelet. Sporting the monochromatic ceramic bezel, the new model also brings back the green “GMT-Master II” text with a matching GMT hand making it feel even more like an old friend. Already getting some love from the community, the watch has been given the nickname “Bruce Wayne” – because sometimes batman has to hang up his cape and put on a suit and tie..
Outside of cosmetics this GMT is built every bit like its brethren. At 40mm the watch is powered by the 70 hour power reserve 3285 automatic movement, has a screw down crown, and is water resistant to 100 meters.
This new model stands to become a fan favorite moving forward as we see it quickly fall in line with the rest of the collection as a more reserved GMT option. An all-rounder in terms of style, versatility, function, and price, it’s a great “daily” and a go-anywhere-do-anything watch that we hope is here to stay.
